Pezci gets caught in a net; Scypho and the Mirror free her. He grabs Pezci and drags her away to safety. The Key lights up, reminding them of her mission. Pezci relates how her tribe was eradicated by the maelstrom. After catching the Mirror staring at her, she demands to know what's up with that thing. Scypho refuses to tell her, and when she asks him to tell about himself, he tells her he's a simple salesman. A trench triggers Pezci's fear of depths, but Scypho gets her to try, just as he starts worrying about the depths.

Pezci tries and fails to cross the trench. Scypho loses patience and is about to grab her, when a watercar shows in the distance. He pulls her into the trench. The Madam stops at Pezci's wail, and she looks around. Pezci starts wailing again, and it's the Mirror that acts, growing a waterjet engine and sweeping them away over the trench. Madam Louv sees them and follows.

The Mirror takes Pezci and Scypho out into the air above, but Madam Louv leaps up to reclaim it. It gets dropped when the Mirror denies the Madam, and a tentacle from the depths tries to claim it. During the fight for possession, it's revealed that he used to work for her, though neither was pleased. The Mirror decides to fight back for itself.

The flames drive off the tentacle and cause Madam Louv to let go. Scypho turns the flames on her now. Pezci watches in horror as more tentacles rise. The Mirror grows wings to escape, but Scypho is grabbed. Pezci looks on fearfully while Scypho begs for help.

Pezci helps Scypho, but the Mirror interferes, grabbing her head securely. Madam Louv and her boys come for the staff, and she tries to remove it from Pezci. The worm in the trench comes up and corners Madam Louv and her squid, while Scypho makes off with the Mirror, Pezci still attached.

At the fuel station, Scypho gets Pezci loose, then he explains what's up with Madam Louv: He used to work for her, but she abused him, so he took the Mirror as payback. Later, after tussling with the staff, he shows Pezci a map of their route to the Light Tower. She has doubts but endures. When she complains she's tired, he gets thoughtful looking at an open watercar.

Scypho and Pezci steal a watercar, but get chased by the cops. When they run out of gas, they set out swimming, but are soon spotted. A monster fish chases off the police, but Pezci's scream attracts it to them. Racing to an abandoned submarine, they get in but lose the Mirror. Hiding from barracudas, they get into a room that sets off an alarm.

Trapped in a small room, Pezci and Scypho are taken prisoner by the owner of the submarine, an airbreathing biped who knew Pezci when she was a guppy, and he's noticed she's a Keyholder now. He cuffs them and places them in hydrospheres for transport and protection, taking them to the dungeon.

Shin cages Pezci and Scypho, then scans them, revealing details on Scypho but not Pezci. When Pezci asks how he knows her, Shin claims it's through the Dohrnii tribe; Scypho claims that can't be. Shin discovers the giant barracuda and tells them they will help kill it so he can bring them all in. Shin arms them, then opens the battered hatch to a darkened passage.

Warning! Blood and violence! Pezci, Scypho and Shin hunt for the giant barracuda head aboard the submarine. When they find it, Pezci becomes hysterical and fires all her spears at once, killing the rest of the 'cudas and taking down the monster. When Scypho tries to recover the Mirror, the monster awakens and escapes from the hull. The boys decide to chase it.

Shin decides to go after the giant barracuda now, but when Scypho tries to follow, he gets shocked by his cuffs. Alone on deck, Shin challenges the monster. It turns to attack, only to end up hacking up the Mirror from its gullet. The Mirror's trajectory leads it to attach itself to Shin, then embedding itself in the open hatch cover. To Shin's dismay, the monster quits and leaves.

With the monster fish gone, Shin asks about the Mirror. Scypho lays claim, then takes the opportunity to swipe the scanner and use it on Shin, discovering he's the last human and a member of the Dohrnii tribe. Shin stuns Scypho and secures the Mirror, even after the staff tries to attack him. Shin tells them they will go see the Dohrnii elders.

Shin's submarine arrives at the amazing floating homes of the Dohrnii tribe, where Shin is known for his excesses as an eager member. He meets with the Dohrnii elders and introduces the Keyholder he has found: Pezci, a member of the Planifron tribe, former allies with the Dohrnii tribe, and a possible threat?

The elders offer condolences for the loss of her tribe, Pezci takes a shot at the Dohrniis for betraying the alliance, and Shin gets confrontational with Scypho. The elders offer Pezci a proposal of safe transport for a part in the reward. She accepts she can't give up the Key and is about to agree, when Scypho steps in and asks to chat with her for a minute.

After a quick consultation, Scypho reluctantly agrees and Pezci accepts the elders' proposal. The elders are delighted; Lady Nellii tells her that she saved their tribe. She has Shin take them to the guest rooms, after he removes their cuffs. At Pezci's urging, Shin tells her how he knows her, saying she was odd for a Planifron.

They all meet the next day in Dr. Crusher Jeff's lab. He assures Pezci in his surfer dialect that the key isn't coming off without lots of pain; she decides to keep it. Scypho asks about the effect the maelstrom is having on the Dohrnii, and he's told they may become extinct due to the toxic waters it brings. While doing some soul-searching, Pezci sees the maelstrom arriving.

The submarine cruises in the ocean, with the adventurers settling in. Pezci and Scypho get a tour of their new home. Upon reaching the control room, Scypho starts prodding Shin, hoping to gain some advantage. Shin finally takes them to the room where he keeps all those things he cannot show to the Dohrnii … including the Mirror! Q&A follows.

Shin shows Pezci and Scypho his "forbidden" collection, just as Scypho wanted all along. Shin shows his real treasure, honey jars. Pezci calms him down, and the staff bombards him with honey jars, ensuring Shin's future good behavior.

A young seadragon approaches the Marine Orders to attend her first Shoal. Lady Eques meets a marlin named Sir Verne, and they exchange barbs. They sit in the gallery to watch the proceedings, but she quickly becomes disgusted by 'politics as usual', seeing that nothing gets done before they take a recess. She decides she needs a word with the chairman of the Shoal.

Lady Eques tells the chairman that confronting the Light Tower would solve their problems. He's unable to act, so she 'suggests' they use the Light Tower. He calls back the other leaders and begins parroting back everything she 'suggests' to him. Soon, the others see the way of it, and much to Sir Verne's astonishment, they agree to infiltrate the Tower.

Setting out for the Light Tower in Shin's submarine, Pezci reveals that Madam Louv is hunting her and Scypho for the Mirror. A new maelstrom attacks the sub, tossing them all about, and forcing Shin to try something dangerous. It doesn't work, and they become stuck in the seabed.

Stranded deep at the bottom of the ocean, Pezci sees they're just over 9000 meters deep. Shin quips one more centimeter would've put them too deep. He discovers why the submarine's engines shut down, but two jump packs aren't enough to restart the reactor. Scypho and Pezci must travel to a nearby city to pick up another jump pack. The Mirror lights the way.

The thug, however, seems to know Scypho… Meanwhile, Pezci summons her courage, but she's distracted by some enticing music…

She leaves and Scypho decides to go to Shin and the sub. The octopus just shrugs at it all.

Subtitled The Deep Sea, this is a bonus episode to celebrate the 5000 (subscribers) milestone, though by time of this episode's publication, it was more like 6000, which is pretty great. Andreafishy tells us she's going to talk a little bit about the deep sea to help us immerse ourselves in this literally dark and cruel world.

Just as she's about to chop off her own hand, the boys show up at the wreck. Lepto puts Pezci in a cage and prepares to deal with the boys.

Lepto uses his song to locate Shin and Levin, and Shin figures out Pezci's alive because Lepto doesn't have the Key yet. Shin gives Lepto an ultimatum.

After Shin issues his ultimatum, Lepto mocks him and Pezci shames him. Then Lepto sings, asking for Pezci's Key. Shin is fed up and shoots, but he misses. Suddenly, Scypho comes up, swinging the Mirror like an axe, to protect Lepto.

When he tries to enthrall Pezci and Scypho, Shin picks them up and runs away, leaving the collapsing wreck behind.
